Blackfoot is a hamlet in east-central Alberta, Canada, within the County of Vermilion River.[1] It is located {{convert|1|km}} north of Highway 16, approximately {{convert|10|km}} west of Lloydminster. HistoryThe first post office opened in 1905 as "Blackfoot Hills" and changed to just "Blackfoot" in 1909.[2] Telephone service was established in 1907.[3] DemographicsAs a designated place in the 2016 Census of Population conducted by Statistics Canada, Blackfoot recorded a population of 392 living in 146 of its 153 total private dwellings, a change of {{percentage|{{#expr:392-269}}|269|1}} from its 2011 population of 269. With a land area of {{convert|0.89|km2|sqmi|abbr=on}}, it had a population density of {{Pop density|392|0.89|km2|sqmi|prec=1}} in 2016.[4] The County of Vermilion River's 2015 municipal census counted a population of 420 in Blackfoot.[5] As a designated place in the 2011 Census, Blackfoot had a population of 269 living in 107 of its 111 total dwellings, a 69.2% change from its 2006 population of 159.
