{{Infobox_gene}}Bleomycin hydrolase is an enzyme that in humans is encoded by the BLMH gene.[1][2][3]Bleomycin hydrolase (BMH) is a cytoplasmic cysteine peptidase that is highly conserved through evolution. Its biological function is hydrolysis of the reactive electrophile homocysteine thiolactone.[4] Another of its activities is metabolic inactivation of the glycopeptide bleomycin (BLM), an essential component of combination chemotherapy regimens for cancer. The protein contains the signature active site residues of the cysteine protease papain superfamily.[3] InteractionsBLMH has been shown to interact with RPL29,[5] RPL11,[5] UBE2I[6] and Amyloid precursor protein.[7] References1. ^{{cite journal | vauthors = Ferrando AA, Pendas AM, Llano E, Velasco G, Lidereau R, Lopez-Otin C | title = Gene characterization, promoter analysis, and chromosomal localization of human bleomycin hydrolase | journal = J Biol Chem | volume = 272 | issue = 52 | pages = 33298–304 |date=January 1998 | pmid = 9407121 | pmc = | doi =10.1074/jbc.272.52.33298 }} 2. ^{{cite journal | vauthors = Montoya SE, Ferrell RE, Lazo JS | title = Genomic structure and genetic mapping of the human neutral cysteine protease bleomycin hydrolase | journal = Cancer Res | volume = 57 | issue = 19 | pages = 4191–5 |date=October 1997 | pmid = 9331073 | pmc = | doi = }} 3. ^1 {{cite web | title = Entrez Gene: BLMH bleomycin hydrolase| url = https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/sites/entrez?Db=gene&Cmd=ShowDetailView&TermToSearch=642| accessdate = }} 4. ^{{cite journal |title = Protective Mechanisms against Homocysteine Toxicity |author = Jarosław Zimny |author2 = Marta Sikora |author3 = Andrzej Guranowski |author4 = Hieronim Jakubowski |last-author-amp = yes |year = 2006 |journal = The Journal of Biological Chemistry |volume = 281 |pages = 22485–22492 |doi=10.1074/jbc.M603656200 |url = http://www.jbc.org/content/281/32/22485.abstract }} 5. ^1 {{cite journal |last=Koldamova |first=R P |author2=Lefterov I M|author3=DiSabella M T|author4=Almonte C|author5=Watkins S C|author6=Lazo J S |date=June 1999 |title=Human bleomycin hydrolase binds ribosomal proteins |journal=Biochemistry |volume=38 |issue=22 |pages=7111–7 |publisher= |location = UNITED STATES| issn = 0006-2960| pmid = 10353821 |doi = 10.1021/bi990135l | bibcode = | oclc =| id = | url = | language = | format = | accessdate = | laysummary = | laysource = | laydate = | quote = }} 6. ^{{cite journal |last=Koldamova |first=R P |author2=Lefterov I M|author3=DiSabella M T|author4=Lazo J S |date=December 1998 |title=An evolutionarily conserved cysteine protease, human bleomycin hydrolase, binds to the human homologue of ubiquitin-conjugating enzyme 9 |journal=Mol.
