Open year-round, it is located at the southern end of Boca Reservoir, {{convert|1|mi|km|0|abbr=on}} north of Interstate 80, {{convert|0.3|mi|m|abbr=on}} above the confluence of the Little Truckee River and the Truckee River, and {{convert|6|mi|km|abbr=on}} northeast of Truckee, California. Reno, Nevada lies {{convert|27|mi|km|0|abbr=on}} to the east.[1] Boca Dam's area of significance includes agriculture, conservation, and engineering. It is administered by the U.S. Department of the Interior, Bureau of Reclamation, and operated by the Washoe County Water Conservation District.
