Traditionally the area was part of Upper Carniola. It is now included with the rest of the municipality in the Central Sava Statistical Region.[2] The settlement includes the hamlet of Zgornje Vrtače (in older sources also Gorenje Vrtače,[3] {{lang-de|Oberwertatsche}}[3]). NameThe name of the settlement was changed from Borje to Borje pri Mlinšah in 1955.[4] ChurchThe local church is dedicated to Saint James ({{lang-sl|sveti Jakob}}) and belongs to the Parish of Kolovrat.
