It is one of the two main ancestral homes (with Woolmers) of the Archer family, prominent local pioneers and politicians. Founded in 1824, it consists of a village and manor house, as well as 465ha working farm.[1] The main manor was built in 1829-1830 in a Georgian style.[2] It has been World Heritage listed with sister property Woolmers Estate since 2010,[3] and it is also listed on the Tasmanian Heritage Register[2] and the Australian National Heritage List since 2007.[4][5] NameBrickendon, like most Archer estates, is named after a location in England - in this case, the village of Brickendon in East Hertfordshire.[6] History{{Empty section|date=November 2014}}References1. ^{{cite news|title=Sentenced to a high-life|url=http://www.traveller.com.au/sentenced-to-a-highlife-2g2jr|accessdate=28 September 2014|publisher=Fairfax Media (traveller.com.au)|date=15 March 2013}} {{Convicts in Australia}}2. ^1 {{cite web|title=Tasmanian Heritage Register Entry - Brickendon Estate|url=http://www.heritage.tas.gov.au/media/pdf/convict_sites/Brickendon.pdf|website=heritage.tas.gov.au|publisher=Heritage Tasmania|accessdate=28 September 2014}} 3. ^{{cite web|title=Australian Convict Sites|url=http://whc.unesco.org/en/list/1306|website=whc.unesco.org|publisher=UNESCO World Heritage Committee|accessdate=4 October 2014}} 4. ^{{cite news|title=National recognition for two Tas colonial homesteads|url=http://www.abc.net.au/news/2007-11-24/national-recognition-for-two-tas-colonial/735146|accessdate=27 September 2014|publisher=The Australian Broadcasting Corporation|date=24 November 2007}} 5. ^{{cite web|title=National Heritage Places - Brickendon Estate|url=http://www.environment.gov.au/heritage/places/national/brickendon-estate|website=environment.gov.au|publisher=Department of Environment, Commonwealth of Australia|accessdate=28 September 2014}} 6. ^{{cite web|title=Family History - Archers|url=http://brickendon.com.au/about_us/family_history|website=brickendon.com.au|accessdate=28 September 2014}} 10 : 1817 establishments in Australia|Archer family residences|Australian Convict Sites|History of Tasmania|Houses in Tasmania|Museums in Tasmania|Open-air museums in Australia|Tasmanian Heritage Register|Tourist attractions in Tasmania|Convictism in Tasmania |
