Brownvale is a hamlet in northern Alberta, Canada within the Municipal District of Peace No. 135.[1] It is located on Highway 737 less than {{convert|1|km}} off Highway 2, approximately {{convert|48|km}} southwest of the Town of Peace River and {{convert|20|km}} southwest of Grimshaw. Duncan's First Nation reserve is less than {{convert|5|km|mi|abbr=on}} to the south. The community originated in the mid-1920s when the railway was extended from Berwyn to Whitelaw.[2] The town was named after John Brown who came to the area in 1913. In 1924 his homestead was chosen for the location of the community.[3] DemographicsAs a designated place in the 2016 Census of Population conducted by Statistics Canada, Brownvale recorded a population of 115 living in 54 of its 59 total private dwellings, a change of {{percentage|{{#expr:115-125}}|125|1}} from its 2011 population of 125. With a land area of {{convert|3.06|km2|sqmi|abbr=on}}, it had a population density of {{Pop density|115|3.06|km2|sqmi|prec=1}} in 2016.[4] As a designated place in the 2011 Census, Brownvale had a population of 125 living in 51 of its 56 total dwellings, a 14.7% change from its 2006 population of 109. With a land area of {{convert|3.38|km2|sqmi|abbr=on}}, it had a population density of {{Pop density|125|3.38|km2|sqmi}} in 2011.[5] See also
