It is located on the northern bank of the Ottawa River. The Municipality of the Village of Bryson was incorporated in 1873. Prior to 1873, the town was called Havelock for a famous English general who had made his mark in India. Because the Canton d'Havelock had already been incorporated two years prior in the province of Quebec, Havelock became Bryson, named after George Bryson.
