It is located at 700 Zion Street, in Nevada City, California. Founded in 1995 by Marc Halpern, the California College of Ayurveda was the first state-approved ayurvedic college in the United States to train practitioners of Ayurvedic medicine.[1]{{unreliable source?|failed=yes|date=February 2014}} [2]{{third-party-inline|reason=this is the school's website, independent RS is needed|date=February 2014}} History of the California College of AyurvedaThe College was founded in 1995 by Marc Halpern with the support of Subhash Ranade from Pune, India and David Frawley, a Western Vedic scholar. In 1996, the College became the first State licensed school of Ayurveda having received approval from the Bureau of Private Postsecondary and Vocational Education. In 1999 the College was the first Western institution to sign a memorandum of understanding with an Indian College of Ayurveda, affiliating itself with Gujarat Ayurved University in Jamnagar, Gujarat. The college's advisory board includes David Frawley, Liladhar Gupta, Akhilesh Sharma, Swami Sitaramananda, Didi Ananda Lalita and Yogini Shambhavi.[3]{{unreliable source?|failed=yes|date=February 2014}}[4] The College's first community clinic opened in Grass Valley, California in 1997. In 2010, the college and clinic moved into a larger campus located in Nevada City, California. In 2012, the College received a donation from Organic India to begin to the first student tended, teaching herbal Medicine Garden at an Ayurvedic School in the United States.[5]{{unreliable source?|failed=yes|date=February 2014}} In 2010, The California College of Ayurveda expanded its activities into Latin America through the development of a sister college; Escuela de Ayurveda de California. About the FounderThe founder of the college, Marc Halpern, trained as a chiropractor at Palmer College of Ayurveda in Sunnyvale, California. He received his post-graduate certification in holistic medicine through New York Chiropractic College and began his studies in Ayurvedic medicine with David Frawley in 1991. Halpern is founding member of the National Ayurvedic Medical Association,[6] where he served as the chairman of the education committee until 2005 and the California Association of Ayurvedic Medicine. Halpern received the All-India award of Best Ayurvedic Physician. He also was awarded the 2012 Dhanvantari award for Excellence in Ayurvedic Practice by the Association of Ayurvedic Professionals of North America.
