Although he has coached several players both on the ATP and the WTA tour, Rodríguez is most notable for his long-time collaboration with the former World No. 1 and multiple grand slam winner Justine Henin. As of 2011, the pair had been together for 15 years, but a portion of that span includes Henin's brief retirement from the pro circuit.[1] Upon Henin's comeback, she insisted that she could not have any other coach than Rodriguez.[2] Rodriguez obliged. He has since commented that her aspiration to return to the highest echelon of the women's game – and rankings, as she retired while holding the No. 1 ranking – has as much to do with factors off the court, that is, mental preparedness and her private life, as it does with her physical fitness or shot-making abilities.[2] Before Rodríguez became Henin's coach, he coached Belgian tennis player Dominique Monami from 1994 to 1996.[3] On the men's tour he is notable for coaching Olivier Rochus and Dick Norman. In July 2012, Rodríguez was hired by former French Open champion Li Na on a trial basis. After becoming Li's full-time coach, he was credited for her late career surge during which she ascended to world No. 2 and won her second Major title at the 2014 Australian Open.[4] In July 2014, Rodríguez and Li parted ways.[5] Rodríguez resided in Beijing and runs a tennis academy there with Henin.[6] In December 2014, he started coaching Daniela Hantuchová.[7] References1. ^[https://www.nytimes.com/2010/01/23/sports/tennis/23tennis.html New York Times: Good Times and Bad, Henin Kept Her Coach in View] {{Li Na}}{{Authority control}}{{DEFAULTSORT:Rodriguez, Carlos}}{{Argentina-tennis-bio-stub}}2. ^1 Australian Open {{webarchive |url=https://web.archive.org/web/20110122031424/http://www.australianopen.com/en_AU/news/articles/2011-01-19/201101181295324526547.html |date=January 22, 2011 }} 3. ^{{cite web|url=https://www.nytimes.com/2012/08/28/sports/tennis/li-na-finds-quick-success-with-coach-carlos-rodriguez.html?_r=0 |title=After Replacing Coach, Li Finds Quick Success |work=The New York Times |date=27 August 2012 |first=Ben |last=Rothenberg |accessdate=22 September 2014 }} 4. ^{{cite web|url=http://sports.nationalpost.com/2013/08/09/li-nas-career-marriage-saved-by-coaching-change/ |title=Archived copy |accessdate=2014-10-06 |deadurl=yes |archiveurl=https://archive.is/20141006133109/http://sports.nationalpost.com/2013/08/09/li-nas-career-marriage-saved-by-coaching-change/ |archivedate=2014-10-06 |df= }} 5. ^{{cite web|url=http://espn.go.com/tennis/story/_/id/11174514/li-na-part-ways-coach-carlos-rodriguez |title=Li Na, Carlos Rodriguez part ways |publisher=ESPN |date=3 July 2014 |accessdate=22 September 2014 }} 6. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.chinadaily.com.cn/cndy/2011-04/13/content_12315208.htm |title=Top coach to help China's future stars |publisher=China Daily |date=13 April 2011 |first=Xiaochen |last=Sun |accessdate=22 September 2014}} 7. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.tennis.com/pro-game/2014/12/hantuchova-be-coached-carlos-rodriguez/53457/#.VSBkOfnF9L0 |title=Hantuchová to be coached by Carlos Rodriguez|publisher=Tennis.com|date=19 December 2014 |accessdate=4 April 2015}} 4 : Living people|Argentine tennis coaches|Argentine expatriate sportspeople in China|Year of birth missing (living people) |
