Car Records was a record label founded in 1977 by Chris Stamey of the powerpop group the dB's.[1] Originally from Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Stamey moved to New York City and started his label where he released the band's first single "(I Thought You) Wanted to Know"/"If and When" under the name Chris Stamey and the dB's in 1978. Also in 1978, Car Records released the first single by Chris Bell (former guitarist of Big Star) [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aUWJzxVq_kk "I Am The Cosmos"]/[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m-yvdIHOdxw&feature=list_related&playnext=1&list=MLGxdCwVVULXeqsgqHE3AhTMu77s4Mw1gH "You and Your Sister"] (the only solo material released in Bell's lifetime).[2] Car Records was located at 89 Bleecker St. References1. ^{{cite news |last=Dickens |first=Rob |url= http://nodepression.com/album-review/chris-stamey-euphoria |title=Chris Stamey - Euphoria |work=No Depression |date=May 27, 2015 |accessdate=March 31, 2018}} {{US-independent-record-label-stub}}2. ^{{cite news |last=Hobbs |first=Thomas |url= https://noisey.vice.com/en_us/article/4xw4ng/the-genius-of-chris-bell-one-of-rocks-greatest-tragedies |title=The Genius of Chris Bell, One of Rock's Greatest Tragedies |work=Noisey |date=December 8, 2016 |accessdate=March 31, 2018}} 1 : American record labels |
