{{Infobox_gene}}Cathepsin W is a protein that in humans is encoded by the CTSW gene.[1][2][3]The protein encoded by this gene, a member of the peptidase C1 family, is a cysteine proteinase that may have a specific function in the mechanism or regulation of T-cell cytolytic activity. The encoded protein is found associated with the membrane inside the endoplasmic reticulum of natural killer and cytotoxic T-cells. Expression of this gene is up-regulated by interleukin-2.[3] References1. ^{{cite journal | vauthors = Linnevers C, Smeekens SP, Bromme D | title = Human cathepsin W, a putative cysteine protease predominantly expressed in CD8+ T-lymphocytes | journal = FEBS Lett | volume = 405 | issue = 3 | pages = 253–9 |date=May 1997 | pmid = 9108299 | pmc = | doi = 10.1016/S0014-5793(97)00118-X}} 2. ^{{cite journal | vauthors = Wex T, Levy B, Smeekens SP, Ansorge S, Desnick RJ, Bromme D | title = Genomic structure, chromosomal localization, and expression of human cathepsin W | journal = Biochem Biophys Res Commun | volume = 248 | issue = 2 | pages = 255–61 |date=Aug 1998 | pmid = 9675123 | pmc = | doi = 10.1006/bbrc.1998.8954 }} 3. ^1 {{cite web | title = Entrez Gene: CTSW cathepsin W| url = https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/sites/entrez?Db=gene&Cmd=ShowDetailView&TermToSearch=1521| accessdate = }}
