He played in the NSWRFL premiership for the North Sydney and South Sydney clubs, and also represented New South Wales and Australia. He primarily played on the wing and has been named amongst the nation's finest footballers of the 20th century.[3] BiographyPlaying careerAlthough born in Redfern, New South Wales, the middle of Souths territory, Blinkhorn grew up a Norths supporter after moving to Chatswood. He was graded to Norths in 1914 and for five years he was the team's leading try-scorer. Blinkhorn spent the 1919 season at Souths, where he met fellow winger, Harold Horder. In 1920, Horder and Blinkhorn moved to Norths, where they remained until 1923. Both wingers returned to Souths in 1924. Blinkhorn was a member of the premiership winning Norths teams of 1921, where the team went through undefeated, and 1922 when Norths met Glebe in the Grand final. Blinkhorn scored two tries. Representative careerBlinkhorn was first selected to play for Australia in 1921. On that 1921–22 Kangaroo tour of Great Britain, he scored a record 39 tries in 29 matches and played in three Tests. This record still stands as the most tries scored on a Kangaroo tour and will most likely never be beaten.[4] He played one further Test against England in 1924. Cec Blinkhorn is Kangaroo No. 116. AccoladesIn February 2008, Blinkhorn was named in the list of Australia's 100 Greatest Players (1908–2007) which was commissioned by the NRL and ARL to celebrate the code's centenary year in Australia.[5] Family legacyFour of Cec's nephews all made appearances for Norths. Clarrie Blinkhorn played in the 1930s.[6] His brothers Jack (61 games 1956–659) and Harold (74 games 1956–62) played in the forwards in the 1950s and 1960s, while Douglas was a three-quarter who made 11 first-grade appearances in 1961–62.[7] References1. ^Rugby league Project 2. ^[https://web.archive.org/web/20120822233315/http://www.yesterdayshero.com.au/PlayerProfile_Cecil-Blinkhorn_1055.aspx Yesterday's Hero] 3. ^Century's Top 100 Players {{webarchive|url=https://web.archive.org/web/20080225164807/http://www.livenews.com.au/Articles/2008/02/22/Controversy_reigns_as_NRL_releases_top_100_players|date=25 February 2008 }} 4. ^{{cite book |title= Encyclopedia of Australian sport|last= Shepherd|first= Jim|year= 1980|publisher= Rigby|location= Australia|isbn=978-0-7270-1119-0|page= 50|pages= |url= https://books.google.com/books?ei=ZploTb-lF5CEvgO6t53uDA&ct=result&id=6xPwAAAAMAAJ|accessdate= 26 February 2011}} 5. ^{{cite web|publisher=NRL & ARL|title=Centenary of Rugby League – The Players|url=http://www.centenaryofrugbyleague.com.au/site/the-players.aspx?cat=3&list=true|accessdate=23 February 2008|date=23 February 2008|deadurl=yes|archiveurl=https://archive.is/20080226180521/http://www.centenaryofrugbyleague.com.au/site/the-players.aspx?cat=3&list=true|archivedate=26 February 2008|df=dmy }} 6. ^{{cite book| last = Pollard| first = Jack| title = Gregory's Guide to Rugby League| publisher = Grenville Publishing| year = 1965| location = Australia| pages =| url = | doi =| id = p144| isbn =}} 7. ^{{cite book| last = Whiticker, Alan| first = Hudson, Glen| title = The Encyclopedia of Rugby League Players| publisher = Gary Allen Publishing| year = 2006| location = Australia| pages =| url = | doi =| id = p40| isbn =}} Sources
