The World Knowledge Forum is the largest forum of its kind in Asia. He also served a brief stint as South Korea's acting prime minister in August 2002 under president Kim Dae-jung, but the National Assembly voted not to confirm him.[3] Education and careerChang obtained a bachelor's degree in politics at the University of Rochester in 1974. He also received a diploma for the Study of EC (European Community) in Belgium in June 1975, and went on to do an M.A in 1976. in international affairs at George Washington University's Elliott School of International Affairs.{{citation needed|date=January 2011}} Afterwards, Chang received his M.A. and Ph.D. in economics and management from New York University, where he wrote his 1987 doctoral dissertation on South Korean construction firms in the Middle East.[1][4] He serves as the president of the South Korean branch of the NYU alumni association.[5] Chang started his newspaper career as a manager of planning department at Maeil Business Newspaper on 1 January 1986. He then rose to the position of director, managing director, and executive director successively, finally becoming the president and publisher in 1988.{{citation needed|date=January 2011}} Chang is a Commissioner for the Global Commission on Internet Governance.[6] As prime ministerChang was named as South Korea's acting PM on 9 August 2002, after the National Assembly declined to confirm his predecessor Chang Sang. The nomination was a surprise to fellow top-level civil servants in their 60s, as Chang was just 50 years old at the time, and had no experience in government.[7] If appointed, he would have been the wealthiest member of the cabinet, with ₩5.6 billion in family assets, according to his self-report.[8] However, during his confirmation hearings, Grand National Party (GNP) members including Hong Joon-pyo and Ahn Kyung-ryul expressed their opposition.[9][10] Chang himself also acknowledged in a press conference that he had falsely registered himself as living in Seoul's Gangnam-gu to enroll his son in a better school.[9] In the end he was rejected by a vote of 151-112.[3] {{clear}}Personal lifeHe was married and has two children.[11] References1. ^1 {{citation|url=http://focus.chosun.com/people/peopleView.jsp?id=750|title=장대환|periodical=Chosun Ilbo|accessdate=2010-07-09}} {{Prime Ministers of South Korea}}{{DEFAULTSORT:Chang, Dae-Hwan}}2. ^{{citation|title=Knowledge management in the digital newsroom|first=Stephen|last=Quinn|pages=173–174|year=2002|publisher=Focal Press|isbn= 978-0-240-51677-6}} 3. ^1 {{citation|url=http://articles.latimes.com/2002/aug/29/world/fg-briefs29.4|periodical=Los Angeles Times|date=2002-08-29|accessdate=2010-07-09|title=Second Recent Choice for Premier Rejected}} 4. ^{{citation|title=Performance of the Korea-based construction firms in the Middle East|last=Chang|first=Tae-hwan|year=1987|publisher=New York University|series=Ph.D. dissertation|oclc=26335012}}; see also Koreans in the Arab world 5. ^{{citation|url=http://article.joins.com/article/article.asp?ctg=12&Total_ID=3925854|periodical=JoongAng Ilbo|date=2009-12-16|accessdate=2010-07-09|title=강만수 특보 자랑스런 NYU동문상 수상 {{bracket|Gang Man-su receives NYU alumni prize}}}} 6. ^https://www.ourinternet.org/#commission 7. ^{{citation|url=http://english.chosun.com/site/data/html_dir/2002/08/09/2002080961002.html|periodical=Chosun Ilbo|date=2002-08-09|accessdate=2010-07-09|title=Chang Dae-hwan Named as Acting PM|last=Kim|first=Min-bai}} 8. ^{{citation|url=http://english.chosun.com/site/data/html_dir/2002/08/14/2002081461006.html|title=PM-Designate's Private Assets Amount to W5.6 Billion|date=2002-08-14|accessdate=2010-07-09|periodical=Chosun Ilbo}} 9. ^1 {{citation|title=PMs Confirmation Hearing Hits Problems|periodical=Chosun Ilbo|accessdate=2010-07-09|date=2002-08-23|url=http://english.chosun.com/site/data/html_dir/2002/08/23/2002082361016.html|last=Cho|first=Hee-chun}} 10. ^{{citation|url=http://english.chosun.com/site/data/html_dir/2002/08/27/2002082761023.html|date=2002-08-27|accessdate=2010-07-09|periodical=Chosun Ilbo|title=Confirmation Vote Set for Wednesday|last=Kim|first=Chang-kyun}} 11. ^{{cite book |last= |first= |date=2003 |title=The International Who's Who 2004 |url=https://books.google.com.my/books?id=sR4Ch1dMe8IC&pg=PA299&lpg=PA299&dq=chang+king+yuh+international+whos+who+2004&source=bl&ots=3bQkm3_Ut-&sig=kI32UtRcTBPrDIWAqEWlmm3PErM&hl=en&sa=X&redir_esc=y#v=onepage&q&f=false |location= |publisher=Psychology Press |page=299 |isbn=9781857432176 |author-link= }} 8 : 1952 births|Living people|New York University alumni|South Korean Roman Catholics|South Korean businesspeople|South Korean expatriates in the United States|George Washington University alumni|Elliott School of International Affairs alumni |
