The Chinese Muslim troops quickly and brutally defeated the Uighur revolt.[1][2] Over 100 Uighurs were executed. The revolt leader's family were made hostages.[3][4] References1. ^{{cite book|url=https://books.google.com/books?id=IAs9AAAAIAAJ&pg=PA134&lpg=PA134&dq=Charkhlik+ma+hu-shan&source=bl&ots=KzhMcZekpP&sig=Z3dZBibQKK69oQWnKjieSl2g80k&hl=en&ei=rTIYTI7mMYOClAfG4ZDpCw&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=3&ved=0CBgQ6AEwAg#v=onepage&q=Charkhlik%20racked%20by%20a%20uighur%20rising%20tungan&f=false|title=Warlords and Muslims in Chinese Central Asia: A Political History of Republican Sinkiang 1911-1949|author=Andrew D.
