释义 |
Cigar ash is the ash produced by a cigar as it is smoked. SmokingConnoisseurs of cigars disagree as to whether the quality of a cigar may be determined from the appearance of its ash.[1]UsesCigar ash may be mixed with chalk to make a dentifrice or tooth powder. It may also be mixed with poppyseed oil to make paint in shades of grey.[2] Sherlock HolmesThe fictional detective Sherlock Holmes was an expert in the study of cigar ash and wrote a monograph, Upon the Distinction Between the Ashes of the Various Tobaccos, about it. This expertise was used in his cases such as A Study in Scarlet, The Boscombe Valley Mystery and The Hound of the Baskervilles. This is repeatedly used as an example of deduction or the Baconian method in philosophical accounts of science and reasoning.[3][4][5][6] References1. ^{{citation |url=https://books.google.com/books?id=LfXxqUhWXl4C |title=The cigar enthusiast: the definitive guide to selecting, storing, and smoking cigars |author=Sonia Weiss |isbn= 978-0-425-15981-1 |year=1997 |page=68}} 2. ^{{citation |title=Tobacco talk and smokers' gossip| page=138 |year=1886 |chapter=The uses of cigar ash |url=https://books.google.com/books?id=LaJMAAAAMAAJ}} 3. ^{{citation |url=https://books.google.com/books?id=yMDWLq2FdrIC|title=Oxford studies in epistemology |author=Tamar Gendler, John Hawthorne |chapter=Holmesian inference |page=11}} 4. ^{{citation |url=https://books.google.com/books?id=q3zWAAAAMAAJ |title=Essential sociology |author=Robert L.
