Kenney was an outstanding halfback and captain of the SLU team in 1906 when his teammate, Bradbury Robinson, completed the first legal forward pass to Jack Schneider in the history of American football on September 5 at Carroll College in Waukesha, Wisconsin. He served as head coach at Creighton University in 1908,[4] where his team went 3–3–2. He returned to Marquette in 1910 as an assistant coach and served as the head football coach there for one season in 1912, compiling a record of 3–4.[5] In World War I, he earned a Purple Heart while serving as a major in the U.S. Army's 121st Field Artillery, 32nd Division.[3] Head coaching record{{CFB Yearly Record Start | type = coach | team = | conf = | bowl = | poll = no }}{{CFB Yearly Record Subhead| name = Creighton Bluejays | conf = Independent | startyear = 1908 | endyear = single }}{{CFB Yearly Record Entry | championship = | year = 1908 | name = Creighton | overall = 3–3–2 | conference = | confstanding = | bowlname = | bowloutcome = | bcsbowl = | ranking = no | ranking2 = no }}{{CFB Yearly Record Subtotal | name = Creighton | overall = 3–3–2 | confrecord = }}{{CFB Yearly Record Subhead | name = Marquette Golden Avalanche | conf = Independent | startyear = 1912 | endyear = single }}{{CFB Yearly Record Entry | championship = | year = 1912 | name = Marquette | overall = 3–4 | conference = | confstanding = | bowlname = | bowloutcome = | bcsbowl = | ranking = no | ranking2 = no }}{{CFB Yearly Record Subtotal | name = Marquette | overall = 3–4 | confrecord = }}{{CFB Yearly Record End | overall = 6–7–2 | bowls = no | poll = no | polltype = | legend = no }} References1. ^{{cite book|title=Red Arrow News-record|author=Red Arrow Club of Milwaukee|date=1940|issue=v. 1-12|publisher=Red Arrow Club of Milwaukee, Incorporated|url=https://books.google.com/books?id=u5rvAAAAMAAJ}} {{Creighton Bluejays football coach navbox}}{{Marquette Golden Avalanche football coach navbox}}{{DEFAULTSORT:Kenney, Clarence}}{{1910s-collegefootball-coach-stub}}2. ^{{cite book|title=History of Milwaukee, City and County|author=Bruce, W.G.|date=1922|issue=v. 2|publisher=S.
