Homerton is a station on the North London Line in the district of Homerton, East London and the station and all trains serving it are operated by London Overground. It is in Travelcard Zone 2. The station is close to Homerton University Hospital and Hackney Marshes. HistoryThe original station was opened on 1 October 1868. Services ceased on 15 May 1944 with a substitute bus service provided until official closure on 23 April 1945. Other than a partial section of wall to the north of the bridge over Barnabas Road, the original 1868 station has been demolished. Although of reduced size, the original station building would have been similar to buildings remaining at Hackney Central and Camden Road. The present basic station was opened on 13 May 1985.[2] ServicesAs part of the programme to introduce four-car trains on the London Overground network, the North London Line between {{stnlnk|Gospel Oak}} and {{LUL stations|station=Stratford}} closed in February 2010; reopening on 1 June 2010. This was to enable the installation of a new signalling system and the extension of 30 platforms along the route. Engineering work continued until May 2011, during which reduced services operated and Sunday services were suspended.[3] The typical service at the station is 4 trains per hour Westbound to {{LUL stations|station=Richmond}} via Hackney, Highbury, Camden Road and Willesden, 2 trains per hour Westbound to Clapham Junction and 4 trains per hour Eastbound to Stratford.[4] These extra services which were introduced following maintenance work on the North London Line have replaced the additional shuttle train running between {{stnlnk|Camden Road}} and {{LUL stations|station=Stratford}} in the morning and evening peaks. {{s-start|noclear=yes}}{{s-rail|title=LOG}}{{s-line|system=LOG|line=North London|previous=Hackney Central|next=Hackney Wick}}{{Disused Rail Insert}}{{Rail line|previous={{stnlnk|Hackney Central}}|next=Victoria Park|route=North LondonRailway|col=000000}}{{s-end}} References1. ^{{citation step free south east rail}} 2. ^Forgotten Stations of Greater London by J.Connor and B.Halford {{ISBN|0-947699-17-1}} 3. ^{{cite news|url=http://www.tfl.gov.uk/corporate/media/newscentre/archive/13867.aspx|title=London Overground to close from Gospel Oak to Stratford as part of £326m upgrade to deliver longer, more frequent trains|date=18 December 2009 |publisher=TfL|accessdate=8 March 2010 |archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20100425055822/http://www.tfl.gov.uk/corporate/media/newscentre/archive/13867.aspx |archivedate=2010-04-25 }} 4. ^London Overground timetable from 22 May 2011.
