It has seldom been observed by the mycological community with all specimens having been collected in Mexico. Originally reported as a sacred mushroom, no chemical studies have been undertaken on this species although other members of the same genus have been shown to contain psilocybin, which causes strong hallucinations.[2] They are crushed, dried, and used in tea, and consumed fresh also.[1] DescriptionIt is a thin, small, about {{convert|3|in|cm}} in height, mushroom that is reddish-orange with a cone or bell shaped cap. When spores are forming the cap will turn a rusty color.[1] Traditional usesThe Mazatec used this fungus as a entheogenic. The Aztec called them sacred mushrooms and used them for healing and various rituals. A cult in the Ivory Coast of Africa has found to be centered on "Tamu".[3][4][5] References1. ^1 2 {{cite web|last=Edley|first=Keith|title=Conocybe siligineoides – Cone Caps|url=http://entheology.com/plants/conocybe-siligineoides-conocybe/|work=Entheology|accessdate=18 December 2013}} 2. ^http://www.magic-mushrooms.net/World_Wide_Distribution_of_Magic_Mushrooms.pdf 3. ^Samorini, G. “Traditional Use of Psychoactive Mushrooms in Ivory Coast?” Eleusis 1 (1995): 22–27. 4. ^Mushroom and Religion: Conocybe, Panaeolus, Psilocybe and Stropharia.” Botany.hawaii.edu, n.d. . 5. ^Hofmann, A., Ratsch, C., Schultes, R., Plants of the Gods: Their Sacred, Healing, and Hallucinogenic Powers.
