{{Infobox_gene}}Cytochrome c oxidase polypeptide 7A1, mitochondrial is an enzyme that in humans is encoded by the COX7A1 gene.[1][2][3]Cytochrome c oxidase (COX), the terminal component of the mitochondrial respiratory chain, catalyzes the electron transfer from reduced cytochrome c to oxygen. This component is a heteromeric complex consisting of 3 catalytic subunits encoded by mitochondrial genes and multiple structural subunits encoded by nuclear genes. The mitochondrially-encoded subunits function in electron transfer, and the nuclear-encoded subunits may function in the regulation and assembly of the complex. This nuclear gene encodes polypeptide 1 (muscle isoform) of subunit VIIa and the polypeptide 1 is present only in muscle tissues. Other polypeptides of subunit VIIa are present in both muscle and nonmuscle tissues, and are encoded by different genes.[3]References1. ^{{cite journal | vauthors = Arnaudo E, Hirano M, Seelan RS, Milatovich A, Hsieh CL, Fabrizi GM, Grossman LI, Francke U, Schon EA | title = Tissue-specific expression and chromosome assignment of genes specifying two isoforms of subunit VIIa of human cytochrome c oxidase | journal = Gene | volume = 119 | issue = 2 | pages = 299–305 |date=Nov 1992 | pmid = 1327965 | pmc = | doi =10.1016/0378-1119(92)90287-Y }} 2. ^{{cite journal | vauthors = Fabrizi GM, Rizzuto R, Nakase H, Mita S, Lomax MI, Grossman LI, Schon EA | title = Sequence of a cDNA specifying subunit VIIa of human cytochrome c oxidase | journal = Nucleic Acids Res | volume = 17 | issue = 17 | pages = 7107–7107 |date=Oct 1989 | pmid = 2550906 | pmc = 318441 | doi =10.1093/nar/17.17.7107 }} 3. ^1 {{cite web | title = Entrez Gene: COX7A1 cytochrome c oxidase subunit VIIa polypeptide 1 (muscle)| url = https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/sites/entrez?Db=gene&Cmd=ShowDetailView&TermToSearch=1346| accessdate = }}
