}}CRDB Bank Plc is a commercial bank in Tanzania. It licensed by the Bank of Tanzania, the central bank and national banking regulator.[2]

Location

The headquarters and main branch of the bank are located on the 3rd Floor, in the CRDB Bank Headquarters Building, along Azikiwe Street, in Dar es Salaam, the financial capital and largest city in Tanzania.[3] The geographical coordinates of the bank's headquarters are:06°48'53.5"S, 39°17'15.5"E (Latitude:-6.814861; Longitude:39.287639).[4]

Overview

The bank provides commercial banking services to individuals, small to medium businesses and large corporations. As of December 2017, CRDB Bank's total assets were valued at TZS:5.901 trillion (US$2.6 billion), with shareholders' equity of TZS:733.5 billion (US$323.1 million).[5] At that time, CRDB owned an estimated 19.5 percent[6] of the TZS:29.97 trillion total banking assets in the country at that time,[7] making it the largest bank in Tanzania, based on total assets.

In September 2013, CRDB Bank was the second-largest commercial bank in Tanzania, by assets, behind FBME Bank. It was also the second-best capitalized commercial bank, behind National Microfinance Bank.[8] The shares of stock of CRDB Bank are listed on the Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange, where they trade under the symbol "CRDB".[9]

History

CRDB Bank was formed when the former Cooperative Rural Development Bank, which had been wholly government-owned, was privatized, recapitalized, and restructured. DANIDA played a significant role in re-structuring the new institution and is a part owner of the new bank.[10]

Branch network

As of November 2016, CRDB Bank had a network of nearly 300 fixed branches, in all Regions of Tanzania.[12][13]

Regional expansion

In early 2009, the bank announced plans to enter neighboring countries by establishing subsidiaries in Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, and Burundi.[14] In November 2011, Tanzanian press reports indicated that CRDB Bank planned to cross-list on the NSE and on the Uganda Securities Exchange (USE).[15]

In December 2012, CRDB Bank established its first foreign subsidiary, CRDB Bank Burundi S.A., by opening a branch in Bujumbura, the largest city and then-capital of Burundi.[16][17][18]
