It flows east for {{convert|9|km|mi|0}} before joining the Whitcombe River, a tributary of the Hokitika River.[1] On 12–13 December 1995, {{convert|1049|mm|in}} of rain fell over the Cropp River, at the time that was a record rainfall for a 48-hour period for New Zealand.[2] On 25–26 March 2019, {{convert|1086|mm|in}} of rain fell over the Cropp River, a new record rainfall for a 48-hour period for New Zealand.[3] The Cropp river area is amongst the top 5 highest, annual, average rainfall areas in the world.[4] See also
