Hwy. 319. It is named for nearby Cypremort Point. Cypremort means "dead cypress" in French.[3] The {{convert|185|acre|km2|adj=on}} park, set against a backdrop of coastal marsh, contains a half-mile stretch of man-made beach which contains picnic sites, a fishing pavilion and sailboat launch. Also, there are 6 cabins on the park grounds which may be reserved by guests. Chitimacha tradition says that one of 4 markers for their tribal land was a great cypress, at present-day Cypremort Point State Park.[4] Cypremort Point is one of the few spots on the Louisiana Gulf coastline which may be accessed by road. Water ActivitiesThe park has a {{convert|100|ft|adj=on}} fishing pier. Crabbing, water skiing, windsurfing and sailing are common activities.[2] FaunaA visitor may see nutria, muskrat, alligator, or a number of bird species. Deer, black bear, rabbits, possum, and red fox also make their home in the area.[2] Gallery{{Gallery|title= Cypremort Point State Park |width=160 |height=170 |lines=3 |File:Pavilion at_Cypremort_Point_State_Park.jpg|Located near the coast of Vermilion Bay are pavilions used for recreation. |File:Beach at Cypremort Point State Park.jpg|Visitors frequently use the bay for swimming and cooling down. }} References1. ^1 {{cite web|url=http://www.crt.state.la.us/parks/iCyprempt.aspx|title=Cypremort Point State Park - Louisiana Office of State Parks|accessdate=3 January 2011}} 2. ^1 2 {{Cite book|title=Louisiana State Parks Cajun Country Brochure|publisher=Louisiana State Parks|year=2007}} 3. ^{{cite book|last=Leeper|first=Clare D'Artois|title=Louisiana Place Names: Popular, Unusual, and Forgotten Stories of Towns, Cities, Plantations, Bayous, and Even Some Cemeteries|url=https://books.google.com/books?id=ZHeeUa0xNxcC&pg=PA77|date=19 October 2012|publisher=LSU Press|isbn=978-0-8071-4740-5|page=77}} 4. ^{{cite book|title=Section II: Federally Recognized Tribes|page=15|publisher=DoD Energy, Environment, Safety & Occupational Health|format=PDF|url=http://www.denix.osd.mil/na/upload/Desk-Guide-Part-2-March-2008_0.pdf|date=March 2008}} External links{{Commons category}}
