Common ingredients include potatoes, carrots, green and red chili peppers, dried red chili peppers, scallions, onions, garlic, ginger, gochujang (chili paste), gochutgaru (chili powder), soy sauce, and sesame oil.[3] Etymology{{Further|Linguistic purism in Korean#Dak-bokkeum-tang}}Dak-bokkeum-tang ({{Lang|ko|닭볶음탕}}) is a compound of dak ({{Lang|ko|닭}}; "chicken"), bokkeum ({{Lang|ko|볶음}}; "stir-fried dish"), and tang ({{Lang|ko|탕}}; "soup"). The dish has often been called dak-dori-tang ({{Lang|ko|닭도리탕}}), where the etymology of the middle word dori ({{Lang|ko|도리}}) isn't definitively known. In South Korea, the National Institute of the Korean Language claims that the word came from Japanese tori ({{Lang|ja|鳥}}; "bird"), and suggests that the word should be purified into dak-bokkeum-tang.[4] References1. ^{{Cite web|url=http://www.korean.go.kr/common/download.do?file_path=notice&c_file_name=140730_%ED%95%9C%EC%8B%9D%EB%AA%85_%EB%A1%9C%EB%A7%88%EC%9E%90_%ED%91%9C%EA%B8%B0_%EB%B0%8F_%ED%91%9C%EC%A4%80_%EB%B2%88%EC%97%AD_%ED%99%95%EC%A0%95%EC%95%88_.pdf&o_file_name=140730_%ED%95%9C%EC%8B%9D%EB%AA%85_%EB%A1%9C%EB%A7%88%EC%9E%90_%ED%91%9C%EA%B8%B0_%EB%B0%8F_%ED%91%9C%EC%A4%80_%EB%B2%88%EC%97%AD_%ED%99%95%EC%A0%95%EC%95%88_.pdf|title=주요 한식명(200개) 로마자 표기 및 번역(영, 중, 일) 표준안|last=National Institute of Korean Language|date=30 July 2014|language=ko|format=PDF|access-date=19 February 2017|layurl=http://www.korean.go.kr/front/board/boardStandardView.do?board_id=4&mn_id=17&b_seq=1465|laysource=National Institute of Korean Language}} {{Korea-cuisine-stub}}2. ^{{Cite web|url=http://stdweb2.korean.go.kr/search/View.jsp?idx=76648|title=dak-bokkeum-tang|website=Standard Korean Language Dictionary|publisher=National Institute of Korean Language|language=ko|script-title=ko:닭볶음탕|access-date=8 April 2017}} 3. ^{{Cite web|url=http://www.doopedia.co.kr/doopedia/master/master.do?_method=view&MAS_IDX=101013000803298|title=dak-bokkeum-tang|website=Doopedia|publisher=Doosan Corporation|language=ko|script-title=ko:닭볶음탕|access-date=8 April 2017}} 4. ^{{Cite web|url=http://www.korean.go.kr/front/refine/refineView.do?refine_seq=440&mn_id=34|title=dak-dori-tang|website=National Institute of Korean Language|language=ko|script-title=닭도리탕|access-date=8 April 2017}} 2 : Korean chicken dishes|Korean soups and stews |
