Widely known as "Kashmir of Odisha",[2] (for its climatic similarity), it is situated at a height of 3000 ft and is a popular tourist destination. Back in the days of the British rule, there was a British officer named Daring Saheb who was in charge of this place. Over the years, this place was named after him, which spelled DaringBadi with Badi meaning village. More than 50% of the population here constitutes ST community of aboriginal tribal races. The temperature level of Daringbadi has often been recorded below 0 °C. It is also famous for its production of superior quality of organic turmeric which already got the G.I. tag.[3] It is also famous for ginger harvesting. TravelDaringbadi can be reached from Bhubaneswar (252 km), the state capital by regular bus services. The nearest railway station is at Brahmapur (120 km). Daringbadi can be reached from Brahmapur either via Sorada (NH-59) which is near about {{convert|120|km}}, or via Bhanjanagar-Udayagiri (NH-117) which is around {{convert|180|km}} or via Mohana-Bramhanigan route which is around {{convert|145|km}}. It is about {{convert|105|km}} from Phulbani, {{convert|49|km}} from Balliguda and {{convert|30.5|km}} from Raikia. TourismMajor attractions include Doluri River, Putudi Water falls, Dasingbadi waterfalls, Badangia waterfalls, Dadubada Paradise, Kirikuti Picnic ground, Ludu waterfalls, coffee plantation, black pepper and turmeric gardens, Duluri Picnic ground, Hill view Park et al. Belghar Sanctuary, which is located around 120 km from Daringbadi and 70 km from Baliguda is home to a number of rare and endangered species of animals and plants and is a popular tourist destination. The region is inhabited by the tribal people known as the Dogria Khond, the most primitive tribe of India, or otherwise known as the Nakate tribes of the mountain.
