Davis House) is a historic building located in Coram, New York, United States. For most of the 19th century, it served as the town meeting place for the Town of Brookhaven. HistoryConstructed around 1750,[2] the original owner of the house was likely Elijah Davis (1727–1802).[3] In 1790, Brookhaven Town's leaders decided to move the seat of local government from Setauket to the more central location of Coram. Starting about 1800, the Davis home served as the location of the annual April town meeting, and hosted the meeting over 80 times, until 1885, when the town was divided into election districts.[4] Until the early 2000s, the house was owned almost continuously by direct male descendents of Foulk Davis, who came to Long Island in 1642.[5] The Brookhaven Town Board designated the house as an official town landmark on April 15, 1986.[4] It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on August 15, 2001.[1] In the fall of 2009, much needed renovation work to the building was begun.[5] References1. ^1 2 {{NRISref|version=2010a}} 2. ^{{cite news | url=https://www.nytimes.com/2001/01/21/realestate/in-the-region-long-island-coram-shopping-center-emerges-from-bankruptcy.html | title=Coram Shopping Center Emerges From Bankruptcy| publisher=The New York Times | date=January 21, 2001 | accessdate=December 4, 2009 | first=Carole | last=Paquette}} 3. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.oprhp.state.ny.us/hpimaging/hp_view.asp?GroupView=9034|title=National Register of Historic Places Registration: Davis Town Meeting House|date=May 2001|accessdate=2010-02-20 |author=John Auwaerter|publisher=New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation}} See also: {{cite web|url=http://www.oprhp.state.ny.us/hpimaging/hp_view.asp?GroupView=9051|title=Accompanying 26 photos}} 4. ^1 Longwood's Journey, The Lester Davis Home {{webarchive|url=https://web.archive.org/web/20090603225138/http://www.longwood.k12.ny.us/history/coram/ldavis.htm |date=2009-06-03 }}, Retrieved December 4, 2009 5. ^1 [https://docs.google.com/viewer?a=v&q=cache:WD7QBsmj6XcJ:www.brookhaven.org/LinkClick.aspx%3Ffileticket%3DQ36HfPvvu%252B4%253D%26tabid%3D71%26mid%3D2133+site:brookhaven.org+davis+and+coram&hl=en&gl=us&pid=bl&srcid=ADGEEShESk9oBpzWHkK7MPxAiFulEb5PsQM1xN5g7gW4oDtpcVKs4-zMzeOSlVw36mFXFMje1WCX0rDveVF-KrIbygQXvdYDA372S1cryaBQhRg0FUPugRKtD2Roj3JuhtOIqLWRsjGr&sig=AHIEtbRfHjt39rYMsKA9k-dx3vds9ghE3Q Restoration Work Begins on Historic Davis House], Town of Brookhaven (September 14, 2009) External links{{commonscat-inline|Davis Town Meeting House}}
