释义 |
Dervorguilla Ltd was a British record label, founded in March 1992, which specialised in Early Music (adventuring also into 20th century chamber music). It was named in honour of Dervorguilla of Galloway, who founded Balliol College, Oxford in 1263: two of the three founders were at the College when they started the company. Much of the music was premiere performances of material discovered in the Bodleian Library of Oxford University, and included pieces by Matthew Locke, Jacob Obrecht, André Campra, Edmund Rubbra etc. The company closed down in 1998, having produced eight releases which sold in small quantities worldwide, excellent reviews having appeared in Gramophone magazine and other publications. Many of those recordings were the first public presentation of the artists concerned - the Dufay Consort, of whom the leader Gary Cooper, and Robin Blaze have forged strong careers for themselves; the Concordia consort; and the lutenist Lynda Sayce whose first solo recording appeared on the label. Dervorguilla Ltd is believed to have been the third UK-based record label to sell discs over the World Wide Web. See also
