HistoryThe DCSO was created after the county was formed in 1880. At that time, one person was appointed as the Election Supervisor, Tax Collector, and the Chief Law Enforcement Officer. Now the sheriff is a constitutional officer who is elected by the voters to serve a four-year term.[1] OrganizationThe Sheriff's Office has 35 sworn deputies and is headed by the Sheriff, Scott Stanley. The office is divided into many divisions, such as administrative, administrative assistant, patrol, courtroom security, school resource, srt, k9, investigations, narcotics, litter control and dispatch. The Department's fleet consists of Chevrolet Caprice's,Chevrolet Silverado trucks and Ford Explorer Interceptors that are white in color with a brown and gold county emblem located on them. Fallen officersSince the establishment of the Dickenson County Police Department, 5 officers have died in the line of duty.[2]
