词条 | Dick Wilson (musician) |
释义 |
Wilson was born in Mount Vernon, Illinois, raised in Seattle, and went to high school in Los Angeles. He started on piano and learned saxophone in Seattle from saxophonist Joe Darensbourg. He became a member of Darensbourg's band in 1930. In 1936, he joined Andy Kirk's Clouds of Joy.[2][1] Wilson was a member of Kirk's band until 1941 when he died of tuberculosis in New York City.[2] With Mary Lou Williams and Pha Terrell, Wilson was one of the most striking musical personalities in the band. He cultivated a style that has been compared to Lester Young's because of similar characteristics in their solos.[1] References1. ^1 2 {{cite book |last1=Feather |first1=Leonard |title=The Book of Jazz: From Then Till Now |date=1965 |publisher=Horizon Press |location=New York |isbn=978-0-8180-1202-0 |page=101}} {{Authority control}}{{DEFAULTSORT:Wilson, Dick}}2. ^1 {{cite web|last1=Kelsey|first1=Chris|title=Dick Wilson|url=http://www.allmusic.com/artist/dick-wilson-mn0000262978|website=AllMusic|accessdate=10 December 2016}} 10 : 1941 deaths|American jazz saxophonists|American male saxophonists|1911 births|20th-century American musicians|20th-century saxophonists|People from Mount Vernon, Illinois|Jazz musicians from Illinois|20th-century male musicians|Male jazz musicians |
