The municipality covers an area of {{convert|13.73|km2|sqmi}}, and has a population of 1,934 (as at 3 July 2006). Dobronín lies approximately {{convert|11|km|mi|0}} north-east of Jihlava and {{convert|112|km|mi|0|abbr=on}} south-east of Prague. In May 1945, after World War II, local Czechs massacred more than dozen local ethnic German civilians.
