It was built by Saladin in the late 12th century, and has been renovated several times.[1][2][3] It bears inscriptions from the 12th and 17th centuries: one dated 1191 in Saladin's name, and another to 1681 from Yusuf Agha, thought to have been the Governor of Jerusalem or a eunuch in the Ottoman imperial palace.[1][4][5] A rectangular semi-enclosed structure, the Dome of Yusuf sits upon a solid stone wall and is supported by three pointed open arches. On the northern face of the southern wall, there are stone carvings and a marble-faced blind-niche. The exterior of the dome is covered in lead sheeting and the interior is decorated with a ribbed pattern.[4][5] References1. ^1 {{cite book|url=https://books.google.com/books?id=UalnoF5MBHMC&pg=PA191&dq=%22dome+of+joseph%22+jerusalem&hl=en&ei=-gSqTIuIFYGhOtiatJcM&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=2&ved=0CDIQ6AEwAQ#v=onepage&q=%22dome%20of%20joseph%22%20jerusalem&f=false|title=The Crusades: Islamic perspectives|author=Carole Hillenbrand|edition= Illustrated, reprint, annotated|publisher=Routledge|year=2000|isbn=978-0-415-92914-1 |page=191}} {{coord|31|46|38.60|N|35|14|07.17|E|display=title}}{{Islamic structures on the Temple Mount}}{{Temple Mount}}{{Old City (Jerusalem)}}2. ^{{cite book|url=https://books.google.com/books?id=FG6ZlkRjD2IC&pg=PA73&dq=%22qubbat+yusuf%22+jerusalem&hl=en&ei=7gWqTKOOC4SbOv6z9agM&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=3&ved=0CDUQ6AEwAg#v=onepage&q=%22qubbat%20yusuf%22%20jerusalem&f=false|page=73|title=Muqarnas: An Annual on the Visual Culture of the Islamic World|first=Gülru |last=Necipoğlu|authorlink=Gülru Necipoğlu|edition=Illustrated, annotated|publisher=BRILL|year=1998|isbn=978-90-04-11084-7}} 3. ^{{cite book|page=97|url=https://books.google.com/books?id=h7CfAAAAMAAJ&q=%22qubbat+yusuf%22+%22renovated+several+times%22&dq=%22qubbat+yusuf%22+%22renovated+several+times%22&hl=en&ei=DQuqTLaSIcrpOaCXqZwM&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=1&ved=0CCsQ6AEwAA|title=Islamic art and archaeology in Palestine|author=Myriam Rosen-Ayalon|edition=Illustrated|publisher=Left Coast Press|year=2006 |isbn=978-1-59874-064-6}} 4. ^1 Qubbat Yusuf {{webarchive |url=https://web.archive.org/web/20110805051948/http://www.archnet.org/library/sites/one-site.jsp?site_id=5266 |date=August 5, 2011 }} Archnet Digital Library. 5. ^1 Al-Aqsa Guide Friends of al-Aqsa 2007. {{webarchive |url=https://web.archive.org/web/20081006175930/http://www.aqsa.org.uk/MULTIMEDIA/AlAqsaGuide/tabid/82/language/en-GB/Default.aspx |date=October 6, 2008 }} 2 : Ayyubid architecture|Domes |
