Jowett won seven New Zealand national athletics titles: the 220 yards in 1952, 1953, and 1954; and the 440 yards in 1953, 1954, 1955, and 1957.[2] He also won five national titles at under-19 level: the 440 yards in 1945, 1946, and 1947; and the 880 yards in 1946 and 1947.[2] Besides athletics, Jowett played rugby for {{Rut Otago}} in 1957. He later moved to Queensland where he was involved in rugby and athletics administration, coaching and refereeing. In the 2005 Australia Day Honours, Jowett was awarded the Order of Australia Medal for service to sport, particularly athletics, as an administrator, technical official and coach, and to the community through church and welfare organisations.[3] His daughter Susan Jowett became an Olympic sprinter.[4] Don Jowett died on 21 July 2011 and was survived by his wife, two daughters and a son.[5] References{{Commons category|Don Jowett}}1. ^Donald Jowett. trackfield.brinkster.net {{1950 New Zealand British Empire Games team}}{{1954 New Zealand British Empire and Commonwealth Games team}}{{Footer Commonwealth Champions 200m Men}}{{Footer New Zealand NC 200 m men}}{{Footer New Zealand NC 400 m men}}{{authority control}}{{DEFAULTSORT:Jowett, Don}}{{NewZealand-athletics-bio-stub}}2. ^1 {{cite web |url=http://www.anzrankings.org.nz/userfiles/file/National_Champions.pdf |title=National champions 1887–2016 |date=December 2016|publisher=Athletics New Zealand |accessdate=15 January 2019 | first=Stephen | last=Hollings}} 3. ^{{cite news|url= https://www.gg.gov.au/sites/default/files/files/honours/AD05.pdf|title=Australia Day 2005 Honours|work=Commonwealth of Australia Gazette |date=26 January 2005|accessdate=15 January 2019}} 4. ^Profile at the New Zealand Olympic Committee website 5. ^{{cite news |url= http://www.nzherald.co.nz/sport/news/article.cfm?c_id=4&objectid=10740128 |title=Athletics: Comm Games gold medalist dies |work=New Zealand Herald |date=22 July 2011 |accessdate=22 July 2011}} 13 : 1931 births|2011 deaths|New Zealand male sprinters|Athletes (track and field) at the 1950 British Empire Games|Athletes (track and field) at the 1954 British Empire and Commonwealth Games|Commonwealth Games gold medallists for New Zealand|Commonwealth Games silver medallists for New Zealand|Commonwealth Games bronze medallists for New Zealand|Commonwealth Games competitors for New Zealand|Commonwealth Games medallists in athletics|Otago rugby union players|New Zealand emigrants to Australia|Recipients of the Medal of the Order of Australia |
