URISA The Urban Regional Information System Association was founded in 1963 and was initially focused on a broad category of information system and computing system issues as they concerned Urban and Regional governmental and non-governmental agencies. Through the years it has become focused on GIS [1]. URISA has created: the GIS Hall of FAME, GISCorp [2], which coordinates short term, volunteer GIS services to underprivileged communities worldwide through humanitarian relief, community development, local capacity building, health and education. The ESIG (Exemplary Systems in Government) awards to recognize effective and extraordinary use of automated information systems, including GIS, by government agencies.
