It is situated {{convert|20|mi|km|1}} north-east from York and {{convert|16|mi|km|1}} south-east from Scarborough. Duggleby is part of the civil parish of Kirby Grindalythe, which had a population of 247 people living in 92 households at the time of the last census in 2001.[1] To the south-east of the hamlet is Duggleby Howe one of the largest round barrows in Britain. The name "Duggleby" is of Norse-Gaelic-origin and means "Dubhghall's Farm".
