It is located in the southeast of the krai and borders with Taseyevsky District in the north, Abansky District in the east, Kansky District in the south, and with Sukhobuzimsky District in the west. The area of the district is {{convert|3569|km2|sp=us}}.[3] Its administrative center is the rural locality (a selo) of Dzerzhinskoye.[1] Population: {{ru-census2010|14,552|;}} 17,028 (2002 Census);[4] {{su-census1989|20,485|.}} The population of Dzerzhinskoye accounts for 50.7% of the district's total population.
