The EAA Biplane is a recreational aircraft that was designed in the United States in the late 1950s and marketed as plans for homebuilding.[2] Design and developmentThe design was produced for the EAA by a team of Allison engineers led by EAA member Jim D. Stewart. This team took the Gere Sport of the 1930s as their starting point and eventually developed a completely new design. It is a single-seat biplane of conventional configuration, with staggered, single-bay equal-span wings braced with N-struts. The undercarriage is of fixed tailwheel type. The fuselage is fabric-covered welded steel tube, and the wings fabric-covered wood. Plans for the biplane remained available until 1972, by which time some 7,000 sets had been sold. The prototype is now preserved at the EAA Aviation Museum in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. The prototype was constructed by students at St. Rita of Cascia High School, Chicago and first flew in 1960. Another example named the "Parkside Eagle" was constructed by students of Parkside High School in Michigan in 1971 and test flown for the first time by Paul Poberezny.[3][4] Specifications (typical){{aerospecs|ref= |met or eng?=eng |crew=One pilot |capacity= |length m=5.18 |length ft=17 |length in=0 |span m=6.10 |span ft=20 |span in=0 |swept m= |swept ft= |swept in= |rot number= |rot dia m= |rot dia ft= |rot dia in= |dia m= |dia ft= |dia in= |width m= |width ft= |width in= |height m=1.83 |height ft=6 |height in=0 |wing area sqm=10.03 |wing area sqft=108 |swept area sqm= |swept area sqft= |rot area sqm= |rot area sqft= |volume m3= |volume ft3= |aspect ratio= |empty weight kg=315 |empty weight lb=695 |gross weight kg=464 |gross weight lb=1,023 |lift kg= |lift lb= |eng1 number=1 |eng1 type=Continental C85 |eng1 kw=63 |eng1 hp=85 |eng1 kn= |eng1 lbf= |eng1 kn-ab= |eng1 lbf-ab= |eng2 number= |eng2 type= |eng2 kw= |eng2 hp= |eng2 kn= |eng2 lbf= |eng2 kn-ab= |eng2 lbf-ab= |max speed kmh=169 |max speed mph=105 |stall speed kmh=67 |stall speed mph=42 |max speed mach= |cruise speed kmh= |cruise speed mph= |range km=322 |range miles=200 |endurance h= |endurance min= |ceiling m=3,505 |ceiling ft=11,500 |glide ratio= |climb rate ms= |climb rate ftmin= |sink rate ms= |sink rate ftmin= |armament1= |armament2= |armament3= |armament4= |armament5= |armament6= }}{{aircontent |see also= |related= |similar aircraft= |lists= }} References1. ^{{cite journal|magazine=Air Trails|date=Winter 1971|title=The true cost of building your own plane|author=Leo J.
