The district encompasses 342 contributing buildings, 4 contributing sites, and 3 contributing structures. It includes several buildings that are individually listed on the National Register. The Lane House (ca. 1718), possibly the oldest surviving house in North Carolina, is owned by Steve and Linda Lane and is located within the district. Also located in the district are the Dixon-Powell House, William Leary House, and Louis Ziegler House designed by architect George Franklin Barber.[3][4][5][6] It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973, with boundary increases in 2001 and 2007.[1][2] References1. ^1 {{NRISref|2007a}} {{Historic Sites of North Carolina}}{{National Register of Historic Places in North Carolina}}{{ChowanCountyNC-NRHP-stub}}2. ^1 2 {{NRISref|version=2010a}} 3. ^"Rental Home Turns Out To Be Oldest House In NC," Raleigh Telegram, http://raleightelegram.com/201301174675 4. ^{{Cite web | author =Survey and Planning Unit| title =Edenton Historic District| work = National Register of Historic Places - Nomination and Inventory | date =June 1973| url = http://www.hpo.ncdcr.gov/nr/CO0017.pdf | format = pdf | publisher = North Carolina State Historic Preservation Office | accessdate = 2014-08-01}} 5. ^{{Cite web | author =Thomas R.
