It is found in all of Europe (except the Iberian Peninsula and the Balkan Peninsula), east into northern Russia.[1] The wingspan is {{convert|10|-|11|mm}}. Adults are on wing from late April to July. Normally, there is one generation per year, although there might be a second generation in warmer areas.[2] The larvae feed on Agrostis, Arrhenatherum elatius, Brachypodium sylvaticum, Calamagrostis arundinacea, Dactylis glomerata, Deschampsia cespitosa, Elymus caninus, Festuca altissima, Festuca gigantea, Glyceria lithuanica, Holcus mollis, Melica nutans, Milium effusum, Poa nemoralis and Poa remota. The larvae create a mine with a corridor widening while descending from the tip of the leaf. The larvae hibernate in the centre of the mine. After winter they leave their mine to pupate.[3] References1. ^{{cite web|url= http://www.faunaeur.org/full_results.php?id=435444|title=Elachista (Elachista) apicipunctella Stainton, 1849|publisher=Fauna Europaea|version=2.6.2|date= August 29, 2013|accessdate=November 12, 2013}} {{Taxonbar|from=Q2358489}}{{Elachistidae-stub}}2. ^{{cite web|url= https://ukmoths.org.uk/show.php?bf=602|title=Elachista apicipunctella |publisher=UK Moths|accessdate=March 8, 2010}} 3. ^{{cite web|url= http://www.bladmineerders.nl/minersf/lepidopteramin/elachista/apicipunctella/apicipunctella.htm|title=Elachista apicipunctella Stainton, 1849|publisher=Bladmineerders.nl|accessdate=March 8, 2010}} 3 : Moths described in 1849|Moths of Europe|Elachista |
