It is found from Fennoscandia and northern Russia to northern Italy and from Ireland to Poland and Hungary.[1] The wingspan is {{convert|7|-|8|mm}}. The larvae feed on Carex elata, Carex ericetorum, Carex ferruginea, Carex sylvatica, Carex vesicaria, Eriophorum angustifolium, Eriophorum latifolium, Eriophorum vaginatum and Scirpus sylvaticus. Young larvae make a long, brown corridor, and hibernate in this. In spring, the larva makes a new mine in another leaf, starting near the base of the blade. The mine widens upwards and forms a blotch at the end. Pupation takes place outside of the mine.[2] References1. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.faunaeur.org/full_results.php?id=435532|title=Elachista (Elachista) serricornis Stainton, 1854|publisher=Fauna Europaea|version=2.6.2|date=August 29, 2013|accessdate=November 9, 2013}} 2. ^{{cite web|url= http://www.bladmineerders.nl/minersf/lepidopteramin/elachista/serricornis/serricornis.htm|title=Elachista serricornis Stainton, 1854|publisher=Bladmineerders.nl|accessdate=March 7, 2010}} External links
