}}Electric Universe is the thirteenth studio album by Earth, Wind & Fire, issued in November 1983 by Columbia Records.[7] The album rose to Nos. 8 & 40 on the Billboard Top Soul Albums and Billboard 200 charts respectively.[8][9]

Overview

Electric Universe was produced by Maurice White for Kalimba Productions.[7]

With Electric Universe came a unique new wave & synth pop sound for EWF.[10][11]

As well Electric Universe was featured in an episode of Mass Appeal's Youtube series Rhythm Roulette.[12]

Critical reception

Rolling Stone described Electric Universe as being full of "sensuous, and at times, rock oriented dance material".[6] Cashbox noted on the album "soulful ballads" and upbeat funk-a-ramas" with "an undeniable futuristic influence in many of the songs pronouncing the effects of the space/computer age".[5] Stereo Review also described Electric Universe as "skillfully crafted" and a "very good recording".[4] Billboard also called Electric Universe a "commercial" album with "uptempo electric boogie songs", "vocal magic" and "midtempo tunes with strong melodic identities"[3]

Singles

The album cut Magnetic rose to nos. 10 & 36 upon the Billboard Hot R&B Songs and Dance Club Songs charts respectively.[13][14] Another single entitled Touch got to nos. 23 & 36 upon the Billboard Hot R&B Songs and Adult Contemporary Songs charts respectively.[15][16]
