CareerBorn in Elkton, Maryland to Maryland attorney and federal judge John Glenn, Elias Glenn was in private practice in Baltimore before becoming a judge of the Baltimore County Court. He was the United States Attorney for the District of Maryland from 1812 to 1824. On August 31, 1824, Glenn received a recess appointment from James Monroe to a seat on the United States District Court for the District of Maryland vacated by Theodorick Bland. Formally nominated on December 16, 1824, Glenn was confirmed by the United States Senate on January 3, 1825, and received his commission the same day. Glenn's service was terminated by his resignation on April 1, 1836. He returned to private practice in Baltimore from 1836 until his death in that city in 1846.
