She competed in the women's individual foil event at the 1948 Summer Olympics.[1] Born and raised in Montreal, she was a daughter of Alfred Atkinson and Maud Robson; her father was killed in a 1921 workplace accident at the National Drug Company in which a boiler exploded.[2] In 1943, she married future politician William McLean Hamilton, the son of Ernie Hamilton, who competed in lacrosse for Canada at the 1908 Summer Olympics.[3] She later married F. Earle Hale around 1953[4] and attended McGill University to earn a Master of Library Science degree after which she worked as a librarian in Montreal. She moved to Lethbridge, Alberta in 1999 and died there in 2011 at the age of 92.[5] References1. ^{{cite web |url=https://www.sports-reference.com/olympics/athletes/ha/betty-hamilton-1.html |title=Elizabeth Hamilton Olympic Results |accessdate=June 12, 2010 |work=sports-reference.com}} {{Authority control}}{{DEFAULTSORT:Hamilton, Elizabeth}}{{Canada-fencing-bio-stub}}2. ^{{cite news|title=Magnesium Powder Thrown In Furnace Caused One Death|url=https://www.newspapers.com/clip/27378517/the_gazette/|date=January 29, 1921|page=4|newspaper=The Gazette|location=Montreal, Quebec|accessdate=January 18, 2019}} 3. ^{{cite news|title=Hamilton-Robson|date=June 21, 1943|page=15|newspaper=The Gazette|location=Montreal, Quebec|url=https://www.newspapers.com/clip/27378102/the_gazette/|accessdate=January 18, 2019}} 4. ^{{cite news|title=Touche-As Stars Meet|newspaper=The Province|date=July 31, 1954|location=Vancouver, British Columbia|page=26|url=https://www.newspapers.com/clip/27379140/the_province/|accessdate=January 18, 2019}} 5. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.crhfoundation.ca/caring_hearts/view.php?fund=85 |title=View a Tribute Fund | Chinook Regional Hospital Foundation |publisher=Crhfoundation.ca |date= |accessdate=January 19, 2019}} 5 : 1919 births|2011 deaths|Canadian female fencers|Olympic fencers of Canada|Fencers at the 1948 Summer Olympics |
