It is Alberta's 41st highest peak, and the 53rd highest peak in British Columbia. It was named in 1901 by James Outram.[1][2] The first ascent of Mount Eon was in 1921 by Winthrop E. Stone, then President of Purdue University, who fell to his death shortly after reaching the summit.[1] GeologyThe mountain is composed of sedimentary rock laid down during the Precambrian to Jurassic periods.[3] Formed in shallow seas, this sedimentary rock was pushed east and over the top of younger rock during the Laramide orogeny.[4] ClimateBased on the Köppen climate classification, Eon Mountain is located in a subarctic climate with cold, snowy winters, and mild summers.[5] Temperatures can drop below −20 C with wind chill factors below −30 C.
