It was named in 1974 by Lipke Holthuis after his good friend Raymond B. Manning.[4] It grows to a length of {{convert|15|cm|0}} (carapace length {{convert|4|-|7|cm|disp=or|abbr=on}}) and lives at depths of {{convert|450|-|550|m}}.[5] While it is large enough to be a target for commercial lobster fishing, this is precluded by its rarity, only three specimens having ever been collected.[5] It can be distinguished from other species in the genus by the lack of post-cervical spines on the carapace, and by the presence of only transverse grooves on the body segments of the abdomen.[5] References1. ^{{Cite journal | author = M.
