HistoryOn 25 September 1916 a 179m-long German military Zeppelin airship flew over the area, attempting to inflict damage on the transport system. It dropped bombs on Ewood Bridge station which was destroyed.[2] The station was closed on 3 June 1972.[3] The line was later reopened by the preserved East Lancashire Railway using a new (and replacement) station, {{stnlnk|Irwell Vale}} just south of the old site of Ewood Bridge.
