On almost the entire route, the S7 will be built by upgrading the existing National Road 7 (DK 7). Its total planned length is {{convert|720|km|abbr=on}}, of which {{convert|264.2|km|abbr=on}} has been built and a further {{convert|98.45|km|abbr=on}} was under construction in April 2015. The upgrade is part of a European plan to fund 330 kilometers of new express roads in Poland[1]. As of October 2018, the longest stretch of this road that has been completed is a {{convert|200|km|abbr=on}} long section between Gdańsk and Napierki. In June 2012, the S7 expressway, south of Gdańsk, formed the city's southern bypass and was opened to the public. In July 2013, the second carriageway of the Kielce bypass was completed and fully opened to traffic. Two stretches of the Southern Warsaw Bypass opened to traffic in July 2013 and September 2013, respectively. In October 2018, an extension of the S7 expressway from just north of Radom to just to the south of Szydłowiec was opened. This forms a bypass of the town of Radom. In September 2017, an extension of the S7 expressway from Jędrzejów to the border of the Holy Cross Province and Lesser Poland opened According to current government plans, this road is to be completed by 2020.[2] See also
