It is entirely contained within the boundaries of the El Dorado AVA and the Sierra Foothills AVA. The boundaries of the Fair Play AVA include rolling hills at elevations between {{convert|2000|ft|m|0}} and {{convert|3000|ft|m|0}} above sea level, making it the California appellation with the highest average elevation. The most popular wine grape variety is Zinfandel, although varieties native to southern France and Italy are gaining in popularity.[2] WineriesAs of January 2019, American Winery Guide lists 32 wineries as being within the Fair Play AVA:[3] {{div col|colwidth=20em}}
