The district came into existence on 13{{nbsp}}April 1992, Baisakhi Day and derives its name from Sahibzada Fateh Singh, the youngest son of 10th Guru Gobind Singh, who along with his brother was bricked-up alive on the orders of Suba Sirhind, Wazir Khan in 1704,[1] and which is now the site of the 'Gurudwara Fatehgarh Sahib'.[2] As of 2011, it is the second least populous district of Punjab (out of 22), after Barnala.[3] Important cities and towns
