Muni Metro trains use a high-level island platform, while historic streetcars use a pair of side platforms (The Embarcadero and Harrison) at the southeast end of the station next to the Harrison Street grade crossing. HistoryThe station opened on January 10, 1998 as part of the Muni Metro Extension project.[1][2] It was initially served by a temporary E Embarcadero line between Embarcadero station and 4th and King/Caltrain station. N Judah service replaced the shuttle service on August 22, 1998.[1] T Third Street service began on April 7, 2007; N Judah service was initially cut back to Embarcadero station, with J Church service added at peak hours.[3][4] On June 30, 2007, the J and N were restored to their previous configuration.[5] E Embarcadero heritage streetcar service was added on August 1, 2015.[6] References1. ^1 2 {{cite news |url=https://www.railwaygazette.com/news/single-view/view/muni-metro-extends.html |title=Muni metro extends |newspaper=Railway Gazette |date=October 1, 1998}} 2. ^1 {{cite web |url=https://www.transit.dot.gov/research-innovation/communications-based-train-control-cbtc-beforeafter-cost-effectiveness-study |title=Communications-Based Train Control (CBTC) Before/After Cost Effectiveness Study |page=9 |date=March 2011 |first1=David |last1=Rojas |first2=Eric |last2=Phillips |publisher=Federal Transit Administration}} 3. ^{{cite book |url=http://archives.sfmta.com/cms/rsrtp/documents/08%20Chapter%203-Third%20St%20LRT%20SRTP%20fy08%20for%20MTAB%201-15-08.pdf |title=SFMTA FY2008-FY2027 Draft Short Range Transit Plan |chapter=Chapter 3: Third Street Light Rail |date=January 15, 2008 |page=3-1 |publisher=San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency}} 4. ^{{cite web |archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20070714000010/http://www.sfmta.com/cms/mroutes/documents/T3-Manual_v6na.pdf |url=http://www.sfmta.com/cms/mroutes/documents/T3-Manual_v6na.pdf |archivedate=July 14, 2007 |title=Discover the T-Third |year=2007 |publisher=San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency |page=6}} 5. ^{{cite press release |url=http://www.sfmuni.com/cms/malerts/ServiceChangesEffectiveJune302007.htm |archivedate=June 24, 2007 |archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20070624222728/http://www.sfmuni.com/cms/malerts/ServiceChangesEffectiveJune302007.htm |title=SFMTA announces service changes effective June 30, 2007 |publisher=San Francisco Transportation Agency |date=June 30, 2007}} 6. ^{{cite press release |url=https://www.sfmta.com/press-releases/sfmta-launches-e-embarcadero-historic-streetcar-line |title=SFMTA Launches The E Embarcadero Historic Streetcar Line |date=July 31, 2015|publisher=San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency}} External links{{commons category inline}}
