The other three are Archidermaptera, which is extinct, Arixeniina, and Hemimerina. They make up the largest and most familiar group. The cerci are unsegmented, and modified into large, forcep-like structures. Females have unhooked cerci, while males have hooked cerci. There are a total of 9 families in this suborder. The best known species is Forficula auricularia, the European earwig, also known as the Common earwig, which is in the family Forficulidae. FamiliesThe suborder contains the following families:[1]
