Frederick Edward Ridgeway was educated at Tonbridge School and Clare College, Cambridge.[3] Ordained in 1872, he was incumbent of the Church of St Mary the Virgin, Glasgow from 1878, and was additionally Dean of the Diocese of Glasgow and Galloway from 1888 until 1890.
